  • Troubleshooting Low Ball Mount Ground Clearance on a 2003 Chrysler Town and Country
  • The Curt Class II Trailer Hitch, part # C12362, is the correct trailer hitch for your 2003 Chrysler Town and Country and the ball mount, part # C45521, is the recommended ball mount for that hitch. It is perfectly safe to turn the ball mount upside down to gain more ground clearance. This is called using the ball mount in the rise position. It is recommended for your vehicle to use this ball mount in the rise position since the trailer hitch is low to the ground. I do not recommend...

  • Troubleshooting Stuck Hitch Ball in Trailer Coupler
  • It sounds like your hitch ball is stuck in the trailer coupler and you've removed the ball mount from the hitch receiver on your tow vehicle. With this being the case, I recommend installing the ball mount back into the hitch receiver and then hitting the ball platform with a rubber mallet # PT24FR while jostling the trailer coupler to see if it comes loose. If you have a trailer jack then you can also try lowering the leg while tapping the ball mount with the mallet to see if the jack...

  • Trouble Removing Curt OEM Gooseneck Hitch Ball From 2021 Chevrolet Silverado W/ OEM Prep Package
  • The Curt OEM Ball Bearing Gooseneck Balls like the # C630-652 you have are notorious for being difficult to remove. This is is due to the small lever on the top that doesn't really give you enough leverage to fully open the handle easily. To remove the stuck gooseneck ball from your New Silverado's gooseneck hitch you will need to use some penatraiting oil in the top lever, and around the sides of the hitch to get into the ball bearing. Using a hammer to hit the hitch ball back and forth...

  • Troubleshooting Excess Play with Trailer Coupler and Hitch Ball Connection
  • There will be a little bit of play with any hitch ball and coupler combination just because there needs to be some room for the trailer coupler to rotate, however it sounds like you might be getting a bit more than normal. I recommend first just making sure that you are using a compatible hitch ball size for the coupler on the trailer. Usually the size ball a coupler works with will be stamped underneath the coupler itself. Make sure it is compatible with a 2 inch hitch ball like what you...

  • Why Would There be Rattle Between Trailer Coupler and Hitch Ball
  • If your current coupler is loose enough that it rattles when connected to a hitch ball it is in need of adjustment or replacement. There should be a nut on the underside of the coupler that holds the latch in place. You would want to tighten that down so that the latch fits tighter to the hitch ball. The Titan Coupler part # T4845000 would also be a great replacement as long as your trailer frame is built on 3 inch channel. This coupler is also made in the USA.

  • Troubleshooting Hitch Extender for Jeep Wrangler For Multi-Ball Mount with Tow Hook
  • Thanks for letting me know what you have tried and what you currently have for a ball mount. It looks like you want an 8 inch extension and the Curt # C45791 was not the fit you desired. We have used this extension with other similar Curt products without issue (see photo), but we don't have the Neiko ball mount to confirm fit. It sounds like the ball mount may have a slightly longer shank behind the hitch pin holes than most, so I recommend trying a slightly longer extension like...

  • Troubleshooting Hitch Ball Not Raising on Reese Fold-Down Gooseneck Trailer Hitch
  • There is not a lock that holds the ball in the down position. I spoke with my contact at Reese about the Fold-Down Gooseneck Trailer Hitch # 8339-4439. She confirmed that there should be a retention spring that will make the ball fold up when the door is lifted. You can check under the hitch to ensure that the tension spring is still in place and free of rust. If the spring is out of place or hindered by rust, this could be preventing the ball from raising when the door is lifted. If...

  • Troubleshooting a Trailer that Keeps Separating from Tow Vehicle
  • If your trailer has come off of your 2 inch trailer ball one of two things are happening. Either the coupler of your trailer is designed for a 2-5/16 inch ball or the latch of your coupler isn't functioning. For a 2-5/16 inch ball check out the link I attached. You will need to know the diameter of the hole in your ball mount to pick out the correct ball. We offer several repair kits for trailer couplers as well that could work. Without knowing what coupler you have it would be hard for...

  • Why Does the Flash E Series Adjustable Ball Mount Rattle While Driving
  • The hitch balls on the Flash E Series Adjustable Ball Mount, # FA42-00-2800, will rattle somewhat in the ball mount when not towing. The rattle is due to the shank of the hitch ball being narrower than the mounting slot on the shank of the ball mount. While towing the rattle will be minimal because the weight on the hitch ball will push the hitch ball shank into the slot on the ball mount. If the rattle you are experiencing is at your trailer hitch receiver, then that can be easily remedied...

  • Potential Causes for Trailer Coupler to Disengage from Hitch Ball
  • Most trailer couplers are designed specifically for one of the three common hitch ball sizes, 1-7/8-inch, 2-inch or 2-5/16-inch, to ensure a safe and secure fit. The compatible ball size is usually stamped into the coupler. However, there are also multi-fit couplers such as # T2343400183. These can function correctly on more than one ball size so long as they are properly tightened. Make sure your hitch ball is not damaged and is the size that works with the coupler on your trailer. Since...

  • How to Free Stuck Trailer Ball from OEM Gooseneck Hitch
  • It sounds like you might have a gooseneck ball like the Curt # C60601. The ball uses 2 large ball bearings to lock it into the collar of the hitch. The best way to proceed is to continue to spray large amounts of lubricant like WD-40 or PB Blaster between the ball and the collar of the hitch. Concentrate on the areas 90ยบ to the right and left of the latch, and also into the latch mechanism. You might need to do this several times over a day or two, as you want the lubricant to penetrate...

  • Reese Hide-A-Goose Gooseneck Trailer Hitch Ball Will Not Go Down
  • This has come up before with different gooseneck hitches that have a hiding ball feature. Normally the cause is some kind of debris, whether it be dirt or corrosion, that is not allowing the ball to move freely or the pin to go all the way in or out. The solution is to clean out the ball cavity as best as you can and then lubricate the hitch according to the instructions which I have linked for you. In the instructions Reese states to make sure to use the magnetic cover to keep the assembly...

  • Troubleshooting Hitch Ball Gets Stuck in Trailer Coupler on Travel Trailer
  • If it's stuck every time you try to unhook it's likely the ball is too large for the coupler. Usually the size is stamped somewhere on the coupler and the ball. If you need a smaller hitch ball I've linked our selection of 1-7/8 inch and 2 inch balls. You'll want to choose one that has the same length and diameter of shank just smaller ball diameter. If it isn't the ball size and it is just continuously binding you can try greasing the coupler with # 58117.

  • Why Does My Trailer Sway When Towed with One Vehicle But Not with Other Vehicle
  • Most likely the reason your trailer is swaying when being towed by your 2005 Kia Sorento is because the trailer is not sitting level while being towed with this vehicle. You will want to pick a ball mount with the correct amount of rise/drop so that your trailer sits as level as possible. Typically a hitch ball mounted in a bumper will sit higher than a ball mount in a frame mounted hitch. For more info on that check out the help article I attached.

  • Actuator Coupler Latch Will Not Stay In Slot
  • First, I recommend checking the size of the diameter of the hitch ball you are using. The Titan Zinc-Plated Brake Actuator # T2478100 is designed for use with 2-5/16 inch diameter hitch balls. If the hitch ball is too small, the coupler may be hitting the hitch ball too far down and preventing a secure connection. If you are using a 2-5/16 diameter hitch ball, it sounds like there may be something preventing the actuator from hooking fully around the hitch ball. The shoulder of the hitch...

  • Troubleshooting Brake Controller that Only Shows Connection When Coupler is On Hitch Ball
  • If you can't get the trailer to show a connection unless the coupler is touching the hitch ball that means your trailer wiring has an insufficient ground. Sometimes if a trailer isn't grounded properly it will end up grounding through the hitch ball to the truck frame. Try improving the ground wire from the connector on your trailer to the trailer frame and most likely you'll see the controller work like it should.

  • Should The Gen-Y Glyder Shock Absorbing Ball Mount Slope Down Under Load?
  • Yes, it is normal for the Gen-Y Glyder Shock Absorbing Ball Mount # 325-GH-12001 to slope down when loaded. This particular hitch is rated for trailers up to 7,000lbs with an optimal tongue weight of 400-700lbs. There is no adjustment available for the hitch but do understand the hitch does have a 500 mile break in period to get the hitch to optimal performance.

  • Troubleshooting Movement Between Trailer Coupler and Hitch Ball On Weight Distribution System
  • There will be some play with any ball and coupler because the trailer has to rotate. However, it sounds like you have too much movement because putting another hitch ball in place seemed to fit better. I recommend changing the hitch ball in your weight distribution system if it is no longer the correct size. If the coupler you have is an underslung coupler that may have something to do with the noise as well. We do have weight distribution systems that are specifically designed for...

  • Ball in Remov-a-Ball Gooseneck Trailer Hitch Will Not Come Out on 2004 Chevy Silverado 2500HD
  • The Remov-A-Ball gooseneck trailer hitches such as # 6300-4440 use a lever is a Z-shaped track to lock/unlock the ball. If the mechanism is binding up and not allowing the lever to move it could need to be lubricated. You would need to go under the truck to see the bottom of the mechanism to determine if it can be lubricated or if something is interfering with the operation of the lever. You should also be able to see if anything is corroded or broken and causing the problem. To release...

  • Diversi-Tech Self-Locking, Adjustable, Aluminum Ball Mount Will Not Unlock
  • It is entirely possible that there is enough pressure still on the pin that goes through the hitch pin hole to prevent you from easily turning the locking mechanism. This could have occurred from the weight of the trailer when it was connected. To relive the tension you will want to attempt to move, wiggle, persuade the ball mount. This should make the lock easier to turn. If you have to persuade it, use a rubber mallet so you do not damage the finish or metal of the ball mount. Another...
